More about the GEM

Introduced in 1996 by F. Sauli at CERN, GEMs provide high gain while preserving the ionisation pattern to a large extend. The transmission of the electrons from the drift region to the anode through the holes is 100%. GEMs are used as pre-amplifier inside the TACTIC chamber.
